About Our Founder & Current President
Alton (AL) Hampton

AlTone

Hi, I’m Alton Hampton—most people call me Al.

One of the main reasons I’m passionate about promoting the RC hobby and RC STEM related programs because, growing up, I didn’t have access to opportunities like this. The financial barriers were high, and there were no local clubs or programs available for me to participate in. Even so, I always had a strong interest in how things worked—especially electronics, mechanics, and aviation.

As a kid, I was known for taking things apart just to understand them. If something was broken in our home, I was probably already inside it trying to figure out how it worked—sometimes even fixing it before it was thrown away. That curiosity eventually led me down a path into aviation, technology, and leadership.

I served 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Attack Helicopter Weapons Systems Repair Specialist and Platoon Sergeant, where I trained and supervised personnel, supported aircraft maintenance operations, and worked extensively with complex electrical, computer, and mechanical systems.

Following my military service, I spent over 20 years in Information Technology, including:

  • Supporting VIP systems at NASA Langley Research Center
  • Providing enterprise-level support at Booz Allen Hamilton
  • Serving as a Service Delivery Manager, leading teams, developing processes, and managing large-scale technical operations across the country.

Today, I am the owner of AlTone LLC, where I work with drone and technology companies, create educational content across multiple YouTube channels, and provide aerial photography and video services.

I am :

  • FAA Part 107 Certified Commercial Drone Pilot
  • An AMA Introductory Pilot Instructor and Event Manager
  • President & Founder of the AMA-sanctioned LOWCRC
  • A member of the Culpeper County Airfest Committee
  • A registered RC instructor with the Lake of the Woods Association

I’ve also completed background checks for volunteer and instructional roles with Culpeper County, Parks and Recreation.

This page is not meant to be a full résumé—only a snapshot of my background and the experience I hope to bring to our community. My goal is simple: to help others—especially youth—discover the same excitement I found in aviation and technology, but with better access, guidance, and opportunity than I had.

At my core, I’m a man of faith, and I strive to lead with integrity, patience, and respect for others. I believe strongly in creating a safe, encouraging environment where both kids and adults can learn, grow, and explore new skills.

As a father of two sons and daughter — one a DevOps engineer and the other a Marine Corps veteran and Police 911 Dispatcher — I do not take credit for their success, however, I understand the value of mentorship, discipline, and positive direction in a young person’s life.

If you have any questions about my background or the programs we’re building, I’m always open to a conversation.
